If you’ve been less than thrilled with the tiny screens on current handheld devices, Tencent has something fresh to catch your eye. According to Videocardz, Tencent has unveiled a new gadget for handheld fans: the Sunday Dragon 3D One. While calling it a “handheld” might be a stretch, it’s more of a portable console. It’s powered by an Intel Lunar Lake CPU and sports a whopping 11-inch display, promising an immersive experience—if you can manage to hold it comfortably, that is.
The specs of the 3D One are impressive: it features a Core Ultra 7 258V processor with four P-Cores (Lion Cove), four E-Cores (Skymont), and an Arc 140V iGPU equipped with eight Xe2 cores. Our thorough testing reveals that Intel’s cutting-edge Lunar Lake processors are finally catching up to AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) in terms of gaming performance. You’ll also find a generous 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, perfect for modern tasks but unfortunately not upgradeable since it’s soldered onto the CPU die. For storage, there’s a “high-speed” 1TB SSD, which should be user-upgradeable if you need more speed or space.
Interestingly, the 3D One might be the first Lunar Lake-powered handheld you can get your hands on, assuming it launches this year. MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ isn’t expected until early 2025. However, temper your excitement as Videocardz reports that the 3D One is still in its prototype stages. Sporting a massive 11-inch 2560×1440 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, this device might double as a laptop substitute due to its size. In contrast, GPD’s Pocket 4 mini-laptops max out with a smaller 8.8-inch screen. Tencent has packed their latest handheld with eye-tracking technology for a glasses-free 3D experience and has reportedly optimized titles like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite for this feature.
The device comes with pre-installed controllers that feature Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and two customizable rear buttons. You can even detach these controllers and swap them for others, provided they’re compatible with the 3D One’s unique dimensions. There’s also support for fast charging at 100W, though the actual battery capacity hasn’t been specified yet.
In all honesty, the 3D One marches to the beat of its own drum when it comes to design philosophy. More traditional handheld consoles are designed to be ergonomic and easy to handle during extended gameplay sessions. This device bucks that trend with its abnormally large screen. The 3D One remains in development, with its release—and its appeal—likely to be limited by geography and niche interest.
