The Bigscreen Beyond headset stands out as an exceptionally compact and lightweight option for those who enjoy extended VR sessions on their PC. Designed with comfort in mind, this SteamVR headset won’t weigh you down during long gaming marathons.
When it comes to pricing, Beyond is set at $1000, with the option to pay $32 monthly. However, it’s important to note that it doesn’t include positional tracking or controllers right out of the box. Since it relies on the SteamVR Tracking system, you’ll need at least one base station—and preferably two for optimal performance. You’ll also need your own controllers, like those from Valve Index.
The headset itself comes with a basic cloth strap and lacks built-in audio features. There’s not even a headphone jack, though it does have a USB-C port you can use for connecting audio devices. To enhance both the audio experience and comfort level, Bigscreen offers an Audio Strap accessory for an additional $130.
In our latest review, we were truly impressed by the Beyond’s compact design and unparalleled comfort, which makes it possible to wear for hours without the usual discomfort associated with other headsets. On the downside, though, we did find that the lenses left something to be desired. They aim for minimalism but, in doing so, introduce some reflections and blurriness that can be distracting. Still, Beyond is spearheading a new generation of VR headsets honed for comfort, with many others likely to follow in its footsteps.
