Imagine getting the chance to roam around a movie set without leaving your chair. Sounds exciting, right? Well, you’re in for a treat. Director Eli Roth personally takes you on an amazing behind-the-scenes journey.
io9 is thrilled to introduce this fantastic video shot on the set of the upcoming Borderlands film, adapted from the beloved video game. Roth teamed up with Light Sail VR to capture some jaw-dropping footage featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. Although best experienced through VR, the video still impresses in 2D.
“I’m a massive VR fan and have been filming with a GoPro 360 since 2018,” Roth shared. “During the pandemic, set visits weren’t feasible, and I wanted to bring fans into the world of Borderlands, capturing what it’s like on set. You’ll witness the impressive craftsmanship of our Budapest-based art department, and get a front-row seat to the action with actors rehearsing their scenes. Watch Blanchett and Greenblatt defy gravity, running and jumping from a towering truck bed. Collaborating with my friends at Light Sail VR, we’ve crafted an immersive adventure that truly captures the spirit and chaos of the Borderlands set.”
Now, let’s talk about Borderlands itself. The movie follows a legendary bounty hunter, played by Blanchett, as she returns to her home planet Pandora to track down the missing daughter of the villainous Atlas, portrayed by Edgar Ramírez. Along her journey, she teams up with a quirky group of allies to unravel Pandora’s greatest mystery. The ensemble cast includes Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Mark your calendars for its release on August 9.
