There’s been a bit of a setback for Xbox fans eagerly waiting for new features on the Xbox app for Android. Originally, users expected some exciting updates by the end of 2024, but now it looks like they’ll have to hang tight until next year.
Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, took to social media recently to share a disappointing update. The company has hit a roadblock thanks to an administrative hold put in place by U.S. courts. This unexpected turn means that the app’s users won’t be able to purchase or play games through it until that hurdle is cleared. Bond’s update came on the heels of a previous announcement in November, which followed a court order requiring Google to allow more competition in its app store back in early October.
Bond expressed the company’s enthusiasm for expanding player choice in a post on X (better known to most as Twitter). “We’re all about giving our players options for where and how they enjoy games, including through direct purchases from our Xbox app,” she stated. “Earlier, I mentioned how we were set to introduce these changes first on the Google Play Store for U.S. Android users, hoping other platforms would follow suit in meeting player demand.”
However, Bond explained that things haven’t gone as planned. “Due to a recent administrative stay granted by the courts, we’ve had to postpone the release of these features,” she said. “Our team has everything set to go and we’re just waiting for the court’s final decision. We’re really looking forward to giving players this added flexibility and choice.”
As things stand, Xbox fans will have to wait a bit longer for these promised features. Stay tuned for more updates as this story continues to develop!
