Star Wars Outlaws is rolling out its first story pack, “Wild Card,” and it’s now available for Xbox Series X|S. To dive into this adventure, players must first complete the Gunsmith quest and the High Roller quest given by Lando Calrissian.
In this fresh chapter, Kay Vess is handpicked by Governor Thorden from Toshara to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc game set on the famed Kessel run. The catch? There’s another secretive game lurking in the shadows of the galaxy’s underworld. Only the most cunning and charming of scoundrels can find their way inside this exclusive, invite-only game.
Now, the rules of Kessel Sabacc remain familiar to many, but in Wild Card, you’ll face distinct twists. You’re set to draw blood and sand cards, aiming for a winning hand across three turns. But remember, run out of chips and you’re shown the door.
This isn’t your everyday Sabacc table either. Hosted aboard the opulent casino cruiser, Morenia, and supervised by Protocol Droid EY-E9, the game showcases a slight twist. One major rule here is the banning of shift tokens, a decision made to ensure fair play. These tokens usually give players an edge, but EY-E9 has opted for an even playing field.
Cheating, however, is a whole different ball game. Players can still try their luck with magnetic dice, Lando’s crafty double draw, or peeking at opponents’ hands using Nix. But this time, Nix can’t slink around unnoticed because of the vibrant, crowded environment of Wild Card’s setting. However, the witty merqaal still has some tricks to offer: Nix can discreetly place cards on others, hopefully leading to them getting caught and booted from the game by EY-E9.
Interestingly, other players have learned to bend the rules too, introducing their own arsenal of cheats. It’s crucial for Kay to keep her eyes peeled for any dubious activity and secretly alert EY-E9, ramping up the tension for the cheaters involved.
As the stakes rise, Kay finds herself against more opponents than ever before. Instead of the usual four players, Wild Card pits her against five others, with EY-E9 keeping a stern watch over the proceedings. The extra players mean there’s more mind games and strategy needed to claim victory.
Want some tips to gain the upper hand? We touched base with Thibaut Machin from Ubisoft Paris, who oversees the game’s development, to get the best strategies for victory.
Starting with the “Double Draw” cheat, Machin discourages just double discarding cards as usual. Instead, he suggests combining this trick with Nix’s new ability to plant cards. By keeping the superior card, you stand a better chance while risking another player’s ejection.
“Gather Intel” is another strategy Machin encourages. As you navigate Morenia, keep an eye out for clues about other players. This knowledge might become crucial when outings cheaters during the game.
“Have a Good Reputation” is important too. Many syndicates have gathered on Morenia, and your standing with them can influence your success. Machin advises that maintaining a solid rapport with these syndicates can ease your path throughout the story pack.
Finally, he emphasizes to “Take Your Time.” Rushing isn’t your friend in Wild Card. With each game lasting several rounds and only limited chips available, patience and observation are vital. Studying the behaviors and conversations at the table might just give you the advantage you need.
In conclusion, Machin finds humor in Lando’s quips, adding a rich layer to the game’s intense atmosphere. “Wild Card” is ready to be explored with Star Wars Outlaws on Xbox Series X|S, and more exciting content is on its way.
