Netflix has treated fans to a fresh glimpse of the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game. While some elements give off a sense of déjà vu, there are plenty of intriguing new twists to keep everyone guessing.
With the premiere just a month away, Netflix has dropped a trailer that pulls back the curtain on the games awaiting the new contenders in the show’s chilling universe. Remember that unforgettable game from Season 1 with the eerie giant robot girl? It’s making a comeback, and once again, Seong Gi-hun is at the forefront, trying his best to steer the new batch of players through the chaos—or at least trying to.
Interestingly, there are quite a few tweaks this time around. Most notably, some games seem to split players into teams marked by an X and an O. Could this be a subtle jab at the way the wealthy divide and conquer the working class? There’s also a peculiar merry-go-round scene, but it mostly looks like Gi-hun is rallying the troops for a possible uprising to put an end to these sinister games once and for all.
Netflix’s official synopsis for the new season teases more intensity: “Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is back, locked in a showdown with the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). As fresh games emerge, the danger escalates, and Gi-hun’s quest to dismantle the games becomes paramount. Will he manage to put an end to them, or will the system continue its lethal cycle?” Returning alongside Lee Jung-jae is another familiar face, accompanied by plenty of new characters including a daring youth with purple hair and a mother-son duo. Any bets on them being split across the rival X and O teams?
Fans won’t have to wait much longer for the thrilling continuation, as Season 2 is slated to drop on Netflix on December 26.
