Back in August, Star Wars Outlaws stumbled into the gaming scene with a less than stellar debut. The reception was lukewarm, and fans faced a parade of technical hiccups—ranging from minor visual oversights to catastrophic bugs that marred the gameplay. Among these tech troubles, one notorious bug forced some PlayStation 5 users to wipe their save files clean just to fix severe glitches, making them start their journey from scratch.
Fast forward a few months, and Star Wars Outlaws has seen significant progress. Ubisoft took player feedback to heart and rolled out a series of updates, each one enhancing the game’s performance in bits and pieces. However, none of these earlier tweaks can hold a candle to the recent Title Update. This latest overhaul is packed with fixes and fresh features, addressing some of the most pressing grievances players had.
The centerpiece of these improvements revolves around the game’s stealth mechanics. Previously, players experienced the frustration of instant mission failures if spotted during stealth missions. Thankfully, the 1.4.0 update changes that narrative. Now, getting caught doesn’t automatically spell doom, and exploring syndicate-controlled areas isn’t a forced stealth ordeal.
The update also overhauls the game’s detection system. Players will now get alerts when an enemy starts to notice them, and on top of that, a visual cue will warn if a planned takedown might attract nearby guards. Plus, tweaks like the elimination of the one-guard-only whistling issue refine the stealth experience further.
Combat in Star Wars Outlaws has not been overlooked either. Enemies are now designed with weak points—hitting these target spots rewards players with specific death animations. Kay’s blaster has been retouched for better precision, with adjusted recoil and spread, making accurate shooting more rewarding. Plus, headshots deliver a bigger punch in terms of damage.
Across the board, enemy AI has also received a boost. These foes now use cover more wisely and will react more realistically to nearby explosions, getting staggered momentarily.
There are also practical improvements like Kay now able to holster two-handed weapons while riding a speeder or when she’s climbing or grappling.
Visually, the game hadn’t escaped criticism upon release, particularly its lackluster visuals during dialogues. The 1.4.0 Update tackles these concerns head-on by introducing refined facial animations and crisper visuals in cinematic sequences.
As if these enhancements weren’t enough to rope in skeptical fans, Ubisoft sweetened the deal with the release of Star Wars Outlaws’ first story DLC, ‘Wild Card.’ This new expansion takes players on an adventure with Kay Vess, who partners up with the legendary Lando Calrissian in a high-stakes Sabacc tournament.
For those yet to dive into Star Wars Outlaws, there’s plenty to discover. As the galaxy’s newest renegade, players can traverse iconic and unexplored planets, engaging in risky escapades to carve out a new path for themselves. With a trusty companion like Nix, players will use a blend of combat, stealth, and clever distractions to outsmart opponents. Amid stellar dogfights and high-risk missions, every choice made shapes the ever-evolving reputation within the galaxy.
Released on August 30, 2024, under the stewardship of Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars Outlaws offers an action-packed open-world adventure. With the latest updates, it’s ready to enthrall players with its rich narrative, challenging gameplay, and the lure of an expansive galaxy filled with potential.
