Were you all set to catch Star Wars Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus this December 3rd? Well, you might need to adjust those plans because Disney has decided to surprise us by moving the premiere date up.
Disney has announced that the next installment in the Star Wars saga will now hit its streaming platform on December 2nd—a full day earlier than originally planned. While this change isn’t exactly earth-shattering, it’s intriguing nonetheless. Only Disney could tell us why they made this seemingly minor adjustment, but it’s a treat to get content early. Plus, fans are in for a double treat with the first two episodes launching together. So, if the premiere captures your interest, you won’t have to wait long for more. Moreover, Disney has revealed the lineup of directors helming the show’s eight episodes, and there are some names you might recognize.
Kicking off the series is Jon Watts, known for directing the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, who will also direct the finale. Episodes two and three are directed by David Lowery, who’s given us a range of films from last year’s Peter Pan & Wendy to more serious works like The Green Knight and A Ghost Story. Episode four falls to the Oscar-winning Daniels, famous for the hit Everything Everywhere All at Once, with Jake Schreier, who’s behind the upcoming Marvel project Thunderbolts, taking on episode five.
For episode six, Bryce Dallas Howard returns, bringing her Star Wars experience from The Mandalorian. Heading episode seven is Lee Isaac Chun, another alum of The Mandalorian, and also known for one of this year’s big hits, Twisters.
Skeleton Crew’s storyline promises an exciting ride as it follows “the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, only to find themselves lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Their quest to return home, while encountering unexpected allies and adversaries, promises to be a bigger adventure than they ever dreamed.” Jude Law features prominently in the cast, and the show is expected to exude the feel of a classic Spielberg adventure.
If you’ve been eager for this new Star Wars chapter, it seems like Disney is ready to deliver it with a bit of a twist. Get your popcorn ready a day earlier than planned!
