Today, December 3, is a special day as it marks the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. To celebrate this milestone, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) hosted the 2024 PlayStation Partner Awards in Japan Asia. This event is a nod to all the fantastic games and talented developers who have delivered their creations on PlayStation platforms in the Japan/Asia region.
This year’s awards celebrated not just the 2024 releases on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 (from October 2023 to September 2024), but also paid tribute to remarkable games crafted by Japanese and other Asian developers on legacy platforms over the past three decades — spanning from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 4. Here’s a complete list of the well-deserved award winners from this event.
Let’s start with the Excellence Award. This accolade goes to the game developed in the Japan/Asia region that achieved a remarkable impact and commercial success over the past three years. The winner? Genshin Impact by HoYoverse.
Next, we have the Grand Award. This recognition is for the top three best-selling titles worldwide that hail from Japan and Asia, from October 2023 to September 2024. The honorees are Black Myth: Wukong from Game Science Interactive Technology, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree by FromSoftware, Inc / Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth by Square Enix Co. Ltd.
Moving on to the Partner Award, this category celebrates titles with leading worldwide sales, coupled with commendable achievements, from the Japan/Asia region. Honorees include Dragon’s Dogma 2 from Capcom Co., Ltd., Honkai: Star Rail from HoYoverse, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth by Sega, Persona 3 Reload from Atlus Co., Ltd, Tekken 8 by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., The First Descendant by Nexon, and Zenless Zone Zero from HoYoverse.
The Special Award shines a spotlight on PS5 titles crafted beyond the Japan/Asia region, which spectacularly succeeded there between October 2023 and September 2024. Kudos to Rise of the Ronin by SIE, developed by Koei Tecmo, and Stellar Blade from SIE and Shift Up for their achievements.
The Users’ Choice Award resonates with player choices, spotlighting the top five games released in Japan/Asia from October 2023 to September 2024 as voted by users. The selections include Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade.
Lastly, let’s revisit the legacy honors with the PlayStation Generations Awards. These celebrate titles elected by users from each PlayStation generation — spanning from the original PlayStation, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, to PS4. These generations’ winners are all past “PlayStation Partner Award” recipients. Catch a glimpse of favorites like Final Fantasy VII from Square Enix Co. Ltd. for the original PlayStation generation and Elden Ring for the PS4 generation.
Here’s a quick note from the “Excellence Award” and “Grand Award” winners, addressing all the players who have supported them.
