COLD VR, an eagerly anticipated title that’s seen as the spiritual successor to the well-loved SUPERHOT VR from 2016, is making its way to Quest and PC VR headsets next month. Fans of the PSVR 2 will have to wait a bit longer for their turn, as that release will follow later on.
SUPERHOT VR, despite its age, remains a classic—it’s an intriguing puzzle why more developers haven’t attempted to emulate its unique mechanic where time halts as you stand still. Enter COLD VR, which puts a fresh twist on things. Instead of time freezing as you slow down, here, your slow movements make time speed up, along with the enemy AI. Take too long to figure things out, and you’ll find yourself in a tight spot.
In a recently dropped trailer, developers ALLWARE shared that they’ve partnered with publisher Perp Games to roll out COLD VR on Quest and PC VR headsets starting January 21st, 2025. As for the PSVR 2, the release will be “at a later date,” according to the teams behind it.
The game is not just about battling a progressively smarter enemy AI; it also throws environmental challenges like lethal lasers, shifting platforms, and several surprises for those daring to delve deeper, says the team at ALLWARE.
Carlos Alfonso from ALLWARE spoke about the journey of bringing COLD VR to life: “Creating COLD VR has been an incredible experience, and the fantastic support from Perp Games has been vital. I’m excited to offer players a genuinely unique adventure where time becomes a core element of play. Thanks to Perp, we’re reaching a bigger audience with PSVR2 and Quest. This is a dream coming true, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!”
Interested players can go ahead and add COLD VR to their wishlist today on all major platforms. The game will be priced at $19.99 / £14.99 / €19.99 and is set to be available on the Horizon Store for Quest 2/3/Pro, on Steam for PC VR fans, and on the PlayStation Store for those on PSVR 2.
