Valve isn’t rushing to release a brand new Steam Deck just yet, but they are stirring excitement with the upcoming launch of a special white version of their Steam Deck OLED. This limited edition model will soon be available and is sure to catch the eye of handheld gaming enthusiasts.
This new version, called the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” boasts the same specifications as the existing 1TB OLED model. However, it will come with a slightly higher price tag of $679, making it $30 more expensive. Mark your calendars for Monday, November 18, when this sleek system will hit the market.
The Limited Edition White Deck isn’t just about the console itself. Valve has added a white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth to the package, making it a complete set for fans of the bright new aesthetic.
Valve isn’t a stranger to experimenting with colors. They previously released a smokey translucent version of the Steam Deck OLED, which sold out quickly despite some issues with minor cracks. This time, the white version will be available wherever the Steam Deck is currently sold—this includes the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, and the newly added Australia, alongside Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea through Valve’s partner Komodo. Importantly, availability will be managed so that each region gets a fair share of stock.
To deter scalpers, Valve has set limits: only one white Steam Deck can be ordered per account, and the account needs at least one purchase before November 2024.
According to Valve, this release will provide valuable feedback for future color variations: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.” For those keen on customization, alternative backplates or skins can be purchased from companies like Jsaux and dbrand, but this limited edition is a rare chance to own the official variant.
Beyond colors, Valve hinted at broader prospects, hinting at “ongoing work toward the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans.”
Looking at the images, it’s hard not to draw comparisons to a stylish blend of Wii U and iPod influences, creating a compelling aesthetic. It will be interesting to see if the fresh look will tempt existing Steam Deck owners to upgrade.
