Dead Space has long been cherished by horror game enthusiasts, and when the original game received a remake, it reignited hopes among fans that EA might consider developing a new installment in the series. Despite this optimism, recent news reveals that a proposal for “Dead Space 4″ was put forward but ultimately turned down by EA.
Earlier this year, Glen Schofield, Bret Robbins, and Christopher Stone, key figures behind the original Dead Space, shared in an interview with Dan Allen Gaming that they had pitched the idea for Dead Space 4 to EA. Unfortunately, their discussions with the company didn’t progress far and seemed to be dismissed rather swiftly.
“They were polite but not interested at the moment,” Schofield recalled. “They acknowledged our pitch, but we could tell it wasn’t going anywhere, and that was their call. They’ve got their metrics and shipping schedules to consider.”
Stone suggested that broader industry dynamics might have influenced EA’s decision to pass on the new entry. He explained, “The gaming industry is experiencing a bit of a tumultuous period. Companies are cautious about taking risks, so while it’s disappointing, maybe it’s just not the right time. Who knows, we might get the chance to pursue it in the future.”
When the Dead Space remake launched in January 2023, it garnered impressive reviews, securing an 89 metascore on Metacritic. Our own Jason Faulkner awarded it a remarkable 9 out of 10. Yet, despite the critical acclaim, the remake didn’t hit EA’s sales targets.
Earlier hints suggested that Dead Space 4 or even a remake of Dead Space 2 might be on the horizon at Motive, but owing to the remake’s sales figures falling short of expectations, plans for these projects have been shelved.
