While Blade & Sorcery, the beloved VR combat simulator, hit a milestone with its major 1.0 release this June, the creative minds at Warpfrog show no signs of resting. They’re already diving into their next project, promising it will carry the same “highly moddable” nature that made its predecessor such a hit.
While specifics about the upcoming game remain under wraps, Warpfrog gave us a teaser during a chat with Road to VR. Fans can look forward to another VR experience featuring the studio’s distinct flair for physics-based gameplay and immersive simulation—a signature of their games to date.
In a nod to their fans’ creativity, the studio reassured that modding enthusiasts will still find plenty to love with this new title. Much like its predecessor, it’s expected to support mods on a scale that lets players tweak everything from weapon effects to creating brand new maps and adventures with incredible ease, thanks to tools like Nexus Mod Manager.
Reflecting on the past and what’s next, Warpfrog mentioned in a discussion with Meta last October that a brand-new framework is in the works for their future projects. This ambitious step comes after realizing that their previous setup had been pushed to its limits during Blade & Sorcery’s extensive early access phase.
“We’re clearing out the spaghetti code and rebuilding for a new gear shift,” shared the team. The shift to a new engine means starting fresh, aiming for speed and efficiency. This time around, they’ve got a full team behind the wheel, ensuring a more streamlined development from start to finish.
Considering the formidable rise of Warpfrog—from a solo passion project led by ‘KospY’ to a thriving team nearly 30 strong—the expectations for their next venture are sky-high.
The June release of Blade & Sorcery saw not just technical advancements but a narrative transformation as well. Introducing the ‘Crystal Hunt’ mode, the game evolved from a pure combat arena to an expansive adventure packed with rich storytelling, character upgrades, and a more cohesive world setup.
Looking ahead, Warpfrog is clearly excited about the road ahead. In a heartfelt update shared on Steam, they expressed gratitude for the support received over the years, hinting at ambitious plans to craft games that are bigger and better than ever before. “With everything we’ve learned, we can’t wait to reveal what’s next. This is just the beginning of the fun,” the studio enthused.
