During CES 2025, NVIDIA revealed some exciting news: they’re expanding the reach of their cloud gaming platform, GeForce NOW, to include Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, as well as Pico headsets.
Now, this doesn’t mean you’ll be able to dive into VR-specific games via the cloud just yet. Instead, what’s on offer is access to a wide array of standard games that are compatible with systems like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and various handheld devices.
If you’re sporting a Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, or Pico headset, you’ll soon have the ability to stream these games directly through GeForce NOW using browsers. This feature is set to be available with the rollout of version 2.0.70 later this month, according to NVIDIA.
Once you get this update, NVIDIA promises it will come packed with all their cutting-edge technologies, such as ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. For those using VR headsets, this means enjoying gamepad-friendly games on a “massive virtual screen,” making the experience even more immersive.
The service offers a tiered approach: there’s a free access level with certain limitations, and for those wanting more, there are higher-quality options available via daily passes and monthly subscriptions. Gamers can dive into an impressive library of over 2,000 titles.
While NVIDIA’s move is groundbreaking, it isn’t entirely unparalleled in the VR landscape. Back in 2022, Pluto VR experimented with bringing cloud gaming to VR with its PlutoSphere service on the Quest. Although it showed promise, the app was pulled from the store by early 2024 due to Meta’s enforcement against unapproved streaming services.
Following this, Microsoft stepped into the ring, making its Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass library available for Quest users in late 2023.
