The Unova Tour event in Pokémon Go is adding a major new attraction that’s sure to excite fans.
The highly anticipated “White Kyurem” and “Black Kyurem” from Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are making their debut in Pokémon Go. Players can look forward to encountering these legendary Ice/Dragon types in real life at events in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21st to the 23rd, with a global release scheduled for March 1st and 2nd.
To get your hands on Black and White Kyurem, you’ll need to take on some challenging raid battles. These battles will yield “Volt Fusion Energy” for creating Black Kyurem and “Blaze Fusion Energy” for White Kyurem. This mechanic will be familiar to those who participated in last summer’s Pokémon Go Fest, where a similar approach was used to obtain “Dusk Mane Necrozma” and “Dawn Wings Necrozma.” The process requires a Kyurem along with either Zekrom or Reshiram, with Kyurem defining the stats and shiny attributes if applicable. If your Kyurem knows the move Glaciate at the time of fusion, pairing it with Zekrom will result in Black Kyurem learning “Freeze Shock,” and with Reshiram, “Ice Burn.” We’re following up with Niantic to see if event Kyurem will come with Glaciate by default for this purpose. Though players outside the initial event areas can participate via remote raids up to five times a day, only those present locally will gain the necessary fusion energy.
Once captured, these legendary Pokémon will display a special background that reflects their origins in Pokémon Black and White. Reshiram will have a background inspired by Pokémon Black, while Zekrom will have one from Pokémon White. Kyurem might have either, and fusing Pokémon with different backgrounds, like a Zekrom with a Black-themed Kyurem, will unlock a unique new background.
With such exciting elements lined up, trainers worldwide have plenty to look forward to as the Unova Tour kicks off!
