Stress Level Zero’s latest creation, BONELAB (2022), has been making waves on the Quest platform, and now there’s some exciting news for fans: their acclaimed physics-driven adventure, BONEWORKS (2019), is finally set to make its way to Meta’s current standalone hardware lineup.
For those who haven’t experienced it yet on a PC VR setup, Boneworks offers a gripping VR narrative adventure that leans heavily into experimental physics gameplay. Picture yourself dynamically moving through detailed environments, tackling physics-centric combat, and solving puzzles with a creative use of realistic physics—it’s a thrilling ride from start to finish.
Recently, Brandon Laatsch, the studio’s co-founder, shared on X their ambitious roadmap for 2025. Included in this is their work on patches for the studio’s Marrow Engine physics framework—originally developed for Unity—and their plans to launch Boneworks on both Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
A sneak peek of Boneworks running on Quest 3 can be seen below:
In his post, Laatsch mentioned that they are simultaneously working on the 2.0 version of Marrow and the Quest 3 adaptation of Boneworks, alongside early development stages for their next big title. They’re also striving for cross-compatibility through the Marrow framework. Although Boneworks naturally bears a resemblance to Bonelab, it presents unique challenges. Here’s wishing Stress Level Zero the best in their endeavors!
Interestingly, Quest users haven’t been entirely left out in the cold. Thanks to a dedicated indie modder known as ‘volx64’, a community mod named ‘Labworks’ allows Boneworks to be played on Quest 2 and beyond.
Laatsch assured fans that there won’t be any takedowns of Labworks, acknowledging the mod’s two-year development journey. He also notes that the forthcoming Marrow Engine implementation will significantly enhance Boneworks, beyond what a basic game port can offer.
As for the release date, it’s still a mystery. But rest assured, we’re attentively following Laatsch’s X updates and Stress Level Zero’s YouTube posts for any new developments. Stay tuned!
