In a recent update, FuturLab has decided to discontinue support for PowerWash Simulator VR on the Quest platform due to financial concerns and the importance of maintaining job security. CEO Kirsty Rigden shared the news, emphasizing the studio’s appreciation for VR technology. However, Rigden acknowledged that continuing to support the VR version was not financially viable at this time.
Despite this setback, Rigden hinted at possible future VR endeavors but made it clear that the current VR team members have been reassigned to other projects within the company. This decision was influenced by the need to prioritize team stability and secure employment opportunities in other areas.
Rigden expressed understanding and empathy toward fans, recognizing the disappointment that comes with such announcements. She stressed that the move was necessary, given the financial constraints, and reassured fans that they might have made a similar choice in her position.
For those interested, here is the core message from the official statement:
“We’re truly sorry to announce that PowerWash Simulator VR support is ending for now. We still love and are committed to the potential of VR, and this decision doesn’t rule out future support, but continuing in the current climate isn’t feasible. Our talented VR team was operating on a platform that was costing us more than it was earning, which, unfortunately, left us at a crossroads with open positions needing to be filled on other projects. Ultimately, ensuring my team’s job security outweighs platform expansions. I understand the disappointment this may cause, but given the circumstances, maintaining a stable team will always be my priority.”
Despite the end of support on Quest, fans of PowerWash Simulator still have plenty to look forward to. The game’s main version continues to enjoy new additions, such as the recent Shrek DLC and an upcoming Wallace & Gromit pack. Before its discontinuation, the Quest version had several engaging updates, including collaborations like the Muckingham Files, and themed crossovers with beloved franchises like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
FuturLab confirmed that PowerWash Simulator VR and its current downloadable content will stay available on the Meta Quest platform, with no plans to remove them.
