Skyrim fans have seen their fair share of massive quest mods, but few have matched the scale of “Death Consumes All,” which paints a grim picture of a plague that runs rampant like a real epidemic. With a recent overhaul, this mod has grown even larger, drawing inspiration from The Witcher 3’s renowned Hearts of Stone DLC.
If you’ve dabbled with the original release of “Death Consumes All” from 2020, you’re in good company—over 100,000 players have downloaded it from Nexus Mods. Its engaging 10-hour branching storyline, enriched with voiceovers, had already captured plenty of attention. Now, thanks to creator Anbeegod, the mod is bigger and better, under the slightly altered title, “Death Consumes All – DLC Quest Mod (Revamped).”
At its core, the story still revolves around a deadly plague sweeping through Skyrim, with gameplay mechanics intentionally echoing the spread of real-life epidemics. This deadly force threatens to turn everyone into undead beings. Accompanied by your trusty follower, Livia Salvian, you’ll face formidable foes, unravel the mystery behind the chaos, and decide the fate of the realm.
However, this revamped version brings a host of changes. Anbeegod notes, “We’ve completely overhauled most of the original quests for improved flow, storytelling, and writing.” Along with new quests offering rich storytelling and diverse choices, they’ve introduced an initial quest, bumping the total from “over 13” to “over 17.” Voice acting enhancements contribute an additional 1,000 lines of dialogue.
The mod now even allows you to “toggle off the plague,” preventing it from laying waste to citizens—a feature medieval folks from the 14th century would have greatly appreciated. Other adjustments aim to refine the design and balance of battles, while reducing bugs and potential conflicts with other mods.
For those eager to plunge into 30 hours of battling the undead in this dark, grungy world as their Dragonborn grapples with yet another apocalypse, this mod offers a thrilling adventure. Plus, Anbeegod has pledged that “50% of this mod’s donation points will be shared with Doctors Without Borders,” lending a hand to real-world epidemic efforts—a noble gesture indeed.
