In just a week, the much-anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will finally be available on PC through Steam. Square Enix has ramped up the excitement by revealing that the game has achieved Steam Deck Verification, a move that’s sure to thrill fans even more.
The buzz doesn’t stop there. A sneak peek video showcasing the game on a Steam Deck was shared by Square Enix on their official X account, giving players a glimpse of what’s to come.
From what we can glean from the footage, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth seems to be running flawlessly on the Steam Deck, with a smooth frame rate and stellar performance. However, we’ll need to wait until January 23, 2025, when the game officially releases, to truly test the graphical limits and frame rates it can handle.
In a delightful twist, Square Enix has also teased the game running on a customized Chocobo-themed Steam Deck. This adorable console, adorned with yellow fluff and feathers, is a nod to the beloved giant birds from the Final Fantasy series, which players use for speedy travel.
The YouTube description for this charming device is careful to note that this “specially crafted Fluffy Chocobo Steam Deck” won’t be hitting store shelves anytime soon, playfully warning against wrapping tech in fur at home. Still, you can bet many hardcore fans would love to get their hands on such a whimsical piece of gaming gear.
As the clock ticks down to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC and the Steam Deck, buzz around the game is reaching a fever pitch. Last week, Square Enix outlined several PC-exclusive features, including enhanced frame rates and graphics, NVIDIA DLSS support, and compatibility with the DualSense controller. However, for me, the Steam Deck Verification is the icing on the cake.
Being able to play one of the most significant entries in the Final Fantasy series on the go is a game-changer. It reminds me of my colleague Jez Corden, who’s been loving the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection through Xbox Cloud Gaming, taking full advantage of the Xbox Play Anywhere feature.
Looking ahead, there’s more on the horizon for Final Fantasy fans. With the upcoming PC launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and whispers of an Xbox version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake slated for 2025, alongside a possible Xbox release of Rebirth in 2026, it’s a thrilling time to be a fan of the series.
Currently available on PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make its debut on Windows PC via Steam on January 23, 2025. The adventure is about to get even bigger!
