At long last, the wait is over for Nintendo enthusiasts—Nintendo has officially unveiled what many have been eagerly anticipating: the Switch 2, the successor to the popular Switch console.
In a recent update video, Nintendo provided a first glimpse at the new system, which now features a noticeably larger screen than the Switch OLED, along with redesigned, larger Joy-Con controllers. These new Joy-Cons connect to the console for handheld gaming with a small clip on each side, enhancing both grip and playability. The console also boasts an improved kickstand, allowing it to sit almost flat for an optimal tabletop gaming experience. Conveniently, the Switch 2 will support existing Switch cartridges as well as digital games, and is set to make its debut sometime in 2025.
While the update didn’t specifically announce any upcoming games, a tantalizing hint was dropped in the form of a new Mario Kart track glimpsed in the video. To offer fans even more insights, a special Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, 2025, with live, hands-on events soon to follow globally. Here’s the lineup of dates and locations according to Nintendo:
In North America, events will take place in New York from April 4 to 6, Los Angeles from April 11 to 13, and both Dallas and Toronto from April 25 to 27. Over in Europe, gaming fans can look forward to Paris from April 4 to 6, London from April 11 to 13, and heading to Milan and Berlin from April 25 to 27. Finally, the excitement lands in Madrid and Amsterdam from May 9 to 11.
For all the eager fans, these announcements mark thrilling times as they gear up for Nintendo’s next big leap in gaming entertainment.
