As Eurogamer initially uncovered, Corinne Busche, director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is moving on from BioWare and EA after an impressive 18-year tenure.
In a heartfelt announcement, Busche revealed her next venture: a classic RPG (CRPG) that she simply couldn’t resist. Details about her new role and the upcoming project remain under wraps for now.
Busche expressed her sentiments in her statement, saying, “Ultimately, this decision was driven by my personal fulfillment. At BioWare, I accomplished what I set out to do—steer the ship in the right direction. Dragon Age and BioWare hold a special place in my heart, and having the chance to restore the game’s reputation as a high-quality single-player RPG has been an incredible honor.”
She continued, “It was no easy feat, as projects with chaotic development often face significant hurdles, sometimes not even seeing the light of day. Yet, we persevered as a team. It was challenging, and it left its mark on me. There’s still much cultural progress for BioWare to make, but I have faith they’re now headed in the right direction.”
On her voluntary departure, Busche added, “I’ve been offered an opportunity that I couldn’t refuse. While I can’t spill too much right now, I assure you, it’s firmly rooted in the CRPG genre and dedicated to crafting unforgettable characters.”
Throughout her career, Busche has also contributed to numerous other EA endeavors, including several Sims 3 expansions, The Sims 4, and The Simpsons projects.
When Dragon Age: The Veilguard debuted last year, it fared well with critics, earning an 82 on Metacritic. However, it faced backlash from parts of the gaming community for being labeled as “woke.” Metacritic addressed this review bombing, citing its moderation team’s active role in monitoring breaches of its guidelines.
