Gaijin Entertainment, the creative minds famous for developing War Thunder back in 2013, have shared some exciting news: their upcoming VR aerial combat game, Aces of Thunder, is gearing up to make its debut on PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets sometime this year.
Initially unveiled to the public in 2023, Aces of Thunder had an anticipated release set for the end of 2024. The game promises to feature some of the most legendary aircraft from World War eras, bringing them to life on platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Recently, Gaijin not only showcased an impressive collection of World War II planes but has now also introduced a lineup of aircraft from World War I into the mix.
“Expect to see legendary fighters such as the Fokker Dr.I, made famous by the Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, a favorite of René Fonck, the Allies’ top ace,” the developers explain. “These planes will feature meticulously detailed cockpits and historically faithful weaponry, along with realistic flight mechanics, ensuring players have a truly immersive and authentic flying experience.”
The game’s roster is further enriched with World War II titans, including iconic aircraft like the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190, the Soviet IL-2, the British Spitfire, and the Japanese A6M3 Zero.
While the exact release date for Aces of Thunder remains under wraps, Gaijin has indicated to Road to VR that they are aiming for a 2025 launch. Meanwhile, fans can prepare by adding the game to their wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
As for the price tag? Details are still up in the air, but we’ll be eagerly watching for any more updates on Aces of Thunder.
