NVIDIA enthusiasts are in for a bit of a wait if they’re trying to snag the RTX 5090 or 5080 GPUs from Overclockers UK. It could be weeks, or even months, before these sought-after graphics cards make their way back to shelves.
The recent launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series was chaotic, to say the least—earning the less-than-flattering label of a ‘paper launch.’ Some retailers didn’t receive a single unit of the RTX 5090, and even those lucky enough to have any in stock quickly saw their minimal inventories wiped out. The same swift sell-out happened with the RTX 5080, despite it being a bit more available, though still with a disappointing generational improvement.
For those eyeing either of these GPUs, you’re looking at a considerable wait. Overclockers UK has announced that both the RTX 5090 and 5080 are completely sold out, and pre-orders have been put on hold. This means that even if you’re prepared to wait for an extended period, you can’t place an order through their site at this time. So, when can you expect them back?
According to Overclockers UK, the RTX 5090 might take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to return to inventory, while the RTX 5080 could become available in about 2 to 6 weeks. In the worst-case scenario for the RTX 5090, you might not see it until around May of 2025. By then, both the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will have already been released, with the 5070 Ti dropping on February 20th and the 5070 arriving in March.
From their latest update on January 31, 2025, Overclockers UK stated: “RTX 5090 sold out and pre-orders ceased, RTX 5080 sold out and pre-orders ceased. Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with some pre-orders taken in restricted quantities.” The stock estimates currently stand at 3-16 weeks for the RTX 5090 and 2-6 weeks for the RTX 5080.
While the RTX 5080 might hit the shelves sooner, within about a month, it’s clear that availability has been better globally compared to the 5090. However, it still fell short of demand. The comparatively lesser generational upgrade didn’t deter buyers, likely because it retained the same price as its predecessor, the RTX 4080 Super.
In this frenzy, some enthusiasts even camped out at stores, and in some instances, retailers resorted to handing out lottery tickets for the chance to spend a hefty sum on these GPUs. Presently, some customers who have ordered from Overclockers UK might find their purchases lingering in a pre-order queue, especially if they haven’t received a confirmation email.
This intense demand and limited availability are the reasons pre-orders halted. While it remains uncertain how soon other retailers worldwide will restock the RTX 5090 and 5080, it’s clear they won’t be back in the blink of an eye.
