It seems like there’s always some new project popping up in the gaming world, especially when it comes to combining elements from different games. Enthusiasts love bringing a slice of one Fallout game into another, but now we’ve got something truly intriguing: a fan is attempting to recreate the classic Fallout experience in an entirely new way–by merging it with The Sims 2. Enter “The Sims 2: New Vegas,” a fan-made “remaster” that showcases what happens when creative Fallout fans decide to innovate.
This work-in-progress venture was highlighted by TheGamer after being discovered on its dedicated subreddit. The mastermind behind it, Baron Pulitzer—known in the community as FalloutPropMaster—runs an independent film production company during the day. Over the span of a week, they’ve been sharing progress updates, illustrating their passion for making this crossover a reality.
In an introduction post, they confessed their impatience waiting for a remastered version of Fallout: New Vegas. “My dream is to have a remaster that also lets us explore some of the cut content that was present during the in-house Beta of Fallout: New Vegas,” they explained. Their inspiration came after seeing some New Vegas Strip casino mods by a user named ‘lilipad’ on ModTheSims. This sparked their ambition to rebuild New Vegas within The Sims 2, despite never having modded the latter before. It’s an opportunity for them to expand their skills.
Over the past week, they revisited some tools from over a decade ago: Milkshape, FOMM, Blender, Nifscope, among others. This activity not only offered a trip down memory lane but also infused fresh excitement into their downtime.
So far, they’ve mapped out the Mojave Wasteland neighborhood, which will feature iconic spots like The Strip and Freeside. They’ve also recreated Goodsprings’ Prospector Saloon—where else would you begin with a project like this?
Character work is underway as well, with glimpses of familiar faces. There are snaps of the well-loved Legion wolf hat wearer Vulpes Inculta hanging out with a couple of ghouls, in addition to a household full of companions likely sharing tales of a certain courier who tends to use them as shields while hurriedly gulping down stimpaks.
The latest updates reveal a revamped TS2 user interface that nostalgically echoes classic Fallout aesthetics, which is quite impressive.
This is definitely a project to watch, especially if you’re revisiting The Sims 2 through the Legacy Collection remaster. It’s perfect for anyone who finds themselves yearning for another adventure through the fictional Mojave—perhaps as a cannibal bent on devouring Mr. House, accidentally ticking off factions with wild antics, all while scheming an independent Vegas outcome to dodge the judgmental gaze of the NCR.
