The dedicated team behind Skyblivion, the ambitious mod project that aims to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within the Skyrim game engine, has exciting news to share. They’ve completed the landscaping for every region of their Cyrodiil map. Although there’s still some work to be done before their planned 2025 release, this marks a significant leap in that direction.
The announcement came via a tweet stating, “With the Niben Basin and Valley now complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscapes have undergone at least a first pass. Next on our agenda: enhancing previously completed areas to elevate them to superior quality.” This progress follows last month’s video update from the modders that reported they were finalizing the world map, with only the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s Eastern border left to finish. Now, that task can be crossed off the list.
However, it’s clear they still have a way to go. In addition to the mapping tweaks highlighted in their tweet, several other tasks are pending. For instance, the team will need to finalize navmeshing to ensure NPCs can navigate the environment smoothly. Otherwise, they risk releasing a mod where characters continuously trip over the kind of obstacles that occasionally frustrate players in the original Skyrim or Oblivion games, rather than just sporadically getting stuck.
The team also mentioned last month they’re deeply engaged in crafting numerous interior spaces. They’re focusing particularly on the intricate quest locations, which demand more time and creativity compared to more typical interiors. At the time, six quests still awaited their turn to be worked on.
