Bossa Games, a well-known studio based in London, has recently faced the tough decision of reducing its workforce. Henrique Olifiers, the co-CEO and co-founder, shared this development in a LinkedIn post, explaining that the company had chosen to make these job cuts as they geared up for the launch of their new game, Lost Skies.
Olifiers elaborated that after the release and subsequent establishment of Lost Skies, Bossa Games plans to transition into smaller teams. This shift is aimed at fostering more innovation, hopefully leading to the creation of new game titles down the line.
“This has been an incredibly difficult choice,” Olifiers admitted, “but our focus is now squarely on the final stages of Lost Skies’ production and its upcoming launch. Our priority is to ensure that the game is successfully released and continues to develop for our players over time.”
He continued, “Once we’ve set Lost Skies on a steady path with live operations, we envision restructuring into small, independent teams. These teams will be dedicated to crafting fresh game ideas and bringing them to players as soon as possible.”
Parting with colleagues is never easy, and Olifiers emphasized the emotional toll of saying goodbye to such highly skilled team members. “It’s heart-wrenching to let go of such talented and cherished colleagues—some of the finest in the gaming industry—who have been integral to our journey. We hoped to find a way through these challenging times without reducing our staff, but unfortunately, we couldn’t avoid this outcome.”
At the start of 2024, Bossa Games had to let go of a third of its employees, marking a significant transformation for the company.
