While Helldivers 2 players have recently been busy fighting through the challenging Terminid spores in the Gloom, freeing Fori Prime from creepy crawlers, and gathering crucial data to stand against the formidable Meridian black hole of the Illuminates, there’s no pause button for these valiant troops of Lady Liberty.
Orders have just come down from the top—Super Earth High Command is directing forces to the western front of the Galactic War. The Automatons are launching a new offensive, with their eyes set on two prime targets over the next four days: Duma Tyr and the planet Julheim. Duma Tyr, if secured, can produce a new MD-8 Gas Mines strategy for the Helldivers, while Julheim is a settlement of what High Command refers to as “moderately feeble young adults.” However, the federation’s limited resources mean only one of these desiring foes can be saved, posing quite the predicament for the players.
The community’s consensus seems to favor saving the citizens of Julheim over the industrial potential of Duma Tyr. This choice harks back to a time when developer Arrowhead made a donation to the Save the Children charity. That was after players prioritized saving “Super Citizen Anne’s Hospital for Very Sick Children” over securing military assets. There’s hope that a similar act of goodwill might follow if Julheim’s defenses hold out.
Currently, the Helldivers are making a heroic attempt to defend both these worlds by holding strong at Bekvam III. This planet is key, as it links to both threatened worlds, from which the Automatons would likely launch their assaults. If they can maintain control here, it could prevent any attacks on Julheim and Duma Tyr.
In a lively thread about this strategic operation, user u/happyapathy553 humorously wrote, “AH trying to pull a trolley dilemma on us, I say we derail this thing.” Another user, u/redge55, showed support despite lamenting the lack of audience, saying, “It’s too bad no one’s going to see this, but I’m with you.” Contrary to their prediction, the thread has garnered 2K upvotes, and players are rallying to Bekvam III in droves.
Defending on this front is a smart move but isn’t without risks. The Automatons could maneuver to reach Julheim through Charon Prime and Charbal-VII. Thus, players will need to hold both one of these worlds and Bekvam III to stop attacks fervently.
But there’s a silver lining. A staggering 40,000 Helldivers have already mobilized to fend off the invasion at Bekvam III, and more are joining the battle every minute. Additionally, players have agreed to relocate the mighty Democracy Space Station (DSS) to Bekvam III, from Martale. It’s a move scheduled to happen shortly, in about an hour and a half.
If the Helldivers pool enough Requisition Slips, currently 63% collected, they can activate the DSS’ Orbital Blockade functionality to stop the Automatons from using Bekvam III as a launch point for their attacks on Julheim and Duma Tyr. Even if Bekvam III falls, it would provide a chance to reclaim it or concentrate on securing another crucial location.
In an ideal world, simultaneous defenses of Bekvam III and Charon Prime would be possible. But considering the current status of Charon Prime’s defenses, the best strategy might be concentrating efforts on Bekvam III and preparing to reinforce Charbal-VII once the Automatons capture Charon Prime.
With a little luck, a second assault on Bekvam III won’t commence until after Charbal-VII is secure. Facing two substantial invasion forces simultaneously would be quite a challenge. Community contributions for the Eagle Storm action, which disrupts invasion progress and rains down airstrikes on enemy positions, are underway and could strengthen the defenses soon.
The clever strategies driven by Helldivers’ loyal community exemplify why I am so fond of Helldivers 2. Even with meticulous planning, players are gearing up for a battle that promises to be anything but easy. So, lock and load, and get ready to dive in, Helldivers!
