Everhood 2, crafted by the imaginative minds at Foreign Gnomes, whisks us back into its whimsical universe for a fresh escapade. Dive deeper into our Everhood 2 walkthrough!
When I caught wind of Everhood 2, it was a delightful surprise. I wasn’t expecting a sequel, but now that it’s here, it feels like the unexpected gem we were all waiting for. Building on the solid groundwork of its predecessor, Everhood 2 takes everything we loved and amplifies it, all while adding its own unique flair. Similar to its predecessor, it proudly displays its love for Undertale, which is far from a downside. Having previously delved into Everhood in 2021 on Nintendo’s platform, I was keen to dive into this next chapter.
As you journey through Everhood 2, it’s crucial to remember that your choices influence your adventure’s path. Right from the start, you’re asked a fundamental question: What do you love most about games? The choices include Story, Battle and Challenges, Unique Experiences, and Funny Stuff. Following that, you’re prompted to select your challenge preference: Story Mode, Easy, Medium, or Hard, which sets the game’s difficulty level.
Then comes a more character-driven question: Do you engage with every character you come across? Your potential answers: Yes, No, and I Don’t Know. While the questionnaire might seem lengthy, these samples hint at the journey’s nature; your answers sketch out a “soul color” that defines your path.
Once you’re in the game, movement involves the left analog stick or the D-Pad, and interaction with the A button. The menu is accessed via the X button, showing collected items and tools at your disposal. Switching characters is made easy with the L and R buttons. Like its predecessor, Everhood 2 is rich with battles, and for the uninitiated, its combat system might take a bit of getting used to.
In Everhood 2, combat is a dance of music and timing. You’ll need to synchronize with the musical beats, dodging attacks and seizing moments to strike. Combat requires you to navigate lanes with the analog stick or D-Pad, jumping with either the up button or B. Strategic absorption of attacks using ZR or A allows for powerful counterattacks via ZL or Y.
A new mechanism lets players hold ZR or A to absorb a sequence of notes. The more energy you gather, the stronger your attacks. But caution is key: a single hit drains your stored energy. Pay attention to the kinds of notes you encounter, as barrier notes can thwart your attacks. Weapons, once accessed, can be toggled using the L and R buttons.
A refreshing twist involves facing adversaries in the game’s overworld, reminiscent of classic RPGs like Earthbound. Experience points now join the fray, collected post-battle and from treasure hunts. As you level up, your stats enhance, boosting your HP and attack prowess. Levelling up also brings fun customization options to tweak your character’s appearance.
Returning to this captivating world was a delightful surprise, proving Everhood 2 to be a sequel we didn’t know we craved. True to its origins, it expands the Everhood universe, sounding off its inspirations proudly. Player choices once again steer the narrative course.
Your character’s journey is about embracing a special bond with reality-hopping, guided by Raven to unlock potential. The first task set before you is to conquer a dragon, earning a Soul Weapon. Collect Power Gems to evolve your character’s abilities, beginning with an Armor Break. Further gemstones enhance damage capacity, though upgrades become pricier with each one. Everhood 2 makes its debut on the Nintendo Switch retailing at $20.00.
In essence, this sequel transports us back to an endearing, eccentric universe that we hadn’t anticipated needing, yet now, joyfully embrace. It’s both a nostalgic nod and a creative leap forward from Everhood, embodying the quirky charm gaming aficionados cherish.
