Studio Fizbin, the creative force behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors by the end of this month. The news came to light in an announcement on their website, as reported by Game Developer. The closure will follow the game’s release on March 18th. Alexander Pieper, the studio’s founder and CEO, explained that this decision is primarily linked to Thunderful’s move to significantly scale back internal development efforts.
Pieper elaborated on the situation, saying, “Right now, the gaming industry is facing some tough challenges, and we’re feeling the impact just like many other talented studios out there.” He referred to Thunderful’s choice last November to cut down on in-house projects, as mentioned by Thunderful CEO Martin in a recent quarterly report, which also affected Studio Fizbin. Since then, the studio has been exploring new avenues to pursue following the completion of Reignbreaker. Sadly, none of these opportunities have panned out, forcing them to make this hard call.
He went on to express gratitude, saying, “To every fan who bought our games, shared fan art, commented, reviewed, and supported us tirelessly—thank you. We are deeply grateful to all our business partners, including Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding agencies, for your unwavering support. And a massive thank you goes to our team—those who stuck with us till the end and those who’ve already moved on to new adventures. Fizbin and its games have always been about the people, and it was all of you who made this studio a place where we could perform the ultimate magic trick of game creation.”
