Sony has just rolled out an updated version of the PlayStation VR2 App, making it compatible with SteamVR content. This latest update aims to improve troubleshooting for the controller tracking problems that have been causing headaches for users.
In version 3.0 of the PlayStation VR2 App, there’s now a handy feature that checks the “Bluetooth connection quality.” This tool informs users about the strength and reliability of their controllers’ connection to the computer.
Back when the app first launched in August 2024, it finally allowed PSVR 2 to run SteamVR games but was quickly met with complaints about controller tracking issues. These problems mainly stemmed from the fact that the necessary PSVR 2 PC adapter lacks hardware for connecting the controllers. Instead, the controllers rely on a standard Bluetooth connection directly to the PC.
The hitch here is that Bluetooth adapters can vary greatly in quality. Their location in your setup and any nearby Bluetooth devices can seriously affect the strength of the connection. Sony has provided a list of officially supported Bluetooth adapters and troubleshooting steps to help diagnose weak connections. However, complaints continue, even from those using adapters officially recommended by Sony.
With the v3.0 update, the PlayStation VR2 App now includes an option to “Check Bluetooth Connection Quality,” supplying users with crucial information about the controller’s connection to the PC. This should make it easier to determine if Bluetooth connectivity is at the root of any tracking issues. If not, users might consider other environmental factors, such as reflections or difficult lighting.
Additionally, the v3.0 update has addressed an issue that caused delays in controller vibration and has incorporated general performance and stability enhancements.
This update follows the December release of version 2.5, which also attempted to spotlight Bluetooth issues as a potential source of tracking problems by alerting users when a poor connection was detected.
