Treyarch has finally pulled back the curtain on "Shattered Veil," the highly anticipated new Zombie map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and gamers can dive into the action a bit earlier than expected.
Originally, the Season 3 content drop for Black Ops 6 was pushed from late March to April 3. However, Activision is now rolling out the Season 3 content for Black Ops 6 multiplayer and Zombies mode on April 2. If you’re eagerly awaiting the return of Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll have to hold on until April 3.
The "Shattered Veil" map builds upon the Dark Aether storyline, which has been a key focus in Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode. Our band of survivors has secured the Sentinel Artifact and now finds themselves at a mysterious old mansion nestled in the dense, wooded hills of West Virginia, near the town of Liberty Falls.
Recognizable from the original Liberty Falls cinematic, the mansion is packed with surprises, including new defenses like microwave traps to fry zombies and a Dark Aether Field Generator that can obliterate the undead with concentrated dark energy. Just be careful not to ensnare yourself in your own devices.
The mansion itself, adorned with a full T-Rex skeleton, is just the beginning of the new additions in Zombies for Season 3.
Encounter fresh enemies like the Elder Disciple, which drifts ominously around the mansion grounds, invigorating nearby zombies and calling forth more ghouls, transforming them into formidable foes like Doppelghasts.
Additionally, players will face off against toxic zombies that rush with ferocity, filling the manor’s grounds with a nauseating fog. These skeletal, greenish creatures explode, leaving behind hazardous acid puddles.
On the brighter side, the fan-favorite Double Tap perk-a-cola is back. This rapid-fire boost, cherished since the days of Black Ops 3, will be available on Shattered Veil and across other Zombies maps in Black Ops 6, courtesy of the Der Wunderfizz machine.
The perk comes with several tiers of enhancements:
Major Augments:
- Double Jeopardy: Low-health zombies have a chance to perish with a single shot.
- Double Impact: Consecutive hits on the same enemy deal increased damage.
- Double Standard: Non-critical shots inflict double damage, exclusive to standard bullet weapons.
Minor Augments:
- Double Time: Boosts fire rate.
- Double or Nothing: Weapons might deal double damage or none at all.
- Double Play: Eliminating two foes in quick succession can replenish two rounds, exclusive to standard bullet weapons.
Season 3 also introduces two new wonder weapons and their variants. The Ray Gun Mark II offers a redesigned three-round burst, with variants that include SMG-like bullet spreads, incendiary rounds, melee attachments, and shotgun-like patterns providing temporary invulnerability, along with marksman patterns that can trigger area damage.
The Wunderwaffe DG-2 brings chain-lightning attacks, potentially stunning hordes for a devastating follow-up.
Players can bolster their loadouts with three new Gobblegums, usable across all maps:
- Tactical Diffusion (Rare): Disables the next Nuke Power-Up explosion and awards everyone 2,000 Essence instead.
- Support Group (Legendary): Equips you with bonus items like the ARC-XD, Mangler Cannon, Sentry Gun, and Mutant Injection Support.
- Die Pitched (Whimsical): For added whimsy, this gives zombies hilariously high-pitched voices for three minutes.
In Zombies, you’ll also be able to craft the returning Death Machine scorestreak for 1750 salvage.
Hoping for some assistance in navigating the Dark Aether? Keep an eye out for the MidSeason refresh, which introduces Directed Mode for Shattered Veil. Included in this refresh is a special Team Cranked mode and a new Frost Blast field upgrade in Zombies, adding even more to explore as the season continues.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is out now on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC via Steam, Battle.net, the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app. A free trial teasing the game’s Zombies content kicks off with Season 2 on April 2 at 9 AM PT, available on all platforms. For those with an Xbox Game Pass, you can jump into the fray on PC or Xbox without delay.
