As the PlayStation 5 takes the spotlight as the go-to console for fans of the brand, the aging PlayStation 4 is gradually stepping back. This shift is affecting various games, and one much-loved MMORPG is bidding farewell to its PS4 version. However, there’s a silver lining: players can seamlessly transition to the PS5 version without shelling out an extra dime.
## Saying Goodbye to Black Desert Online on PS4
Black Desert Online, a staple for many MMORPG enthusiasts, is set to phase out its PS4 and Xbox One versions. Pearl Abyss, the game’s developer, has announced that by June 26, during a scheduled maintenance period, these older versions will discontinue. But all is not lost for loyal players. You can jump into the next-gen realm on current consoles without losing your progress or purchases, as these will carry over smoothly to the new version.
Brian Choi, the Live Service Manager for Black Desert Console, reassures players, “You can trust that your game data is safe and sound.” He explains that your account details and all your Black Desert assets will be right there waiting when you make the leap to PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series consoles. Understandably, this news may dishearten some fans, but Black Desert has consistently evolved to ensure adventurers experience the best it has to offer.
Choi further elaborates, “As highlighted in our previous video, despite our ongoing efforts to optimize older console versions, the hardware constraints are becoming too much of a barrier for delivering the latest content. After thoughtful consideration, we believe that directing our focus towards enhancing the experience on the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles is the most logical step forward.”
When Black Desert Online first hit the US market in 2016, it stirred mixed emotions. Aggregated reviews on Metacritic reflect a respectable average score of 73 from 35 critic reviews. The game later made its way onto the PS4 and Xbox One platforms in 2019.
