The Binary Mill, an indie studio ventures into the cosmic realm with their upcoming title, “Into Black,” which is poised to debut on PSVR 2, shedding its Quest exclusivity. This new addition means fans of immersive space-mining adventures have more platforms to explore.
Launched initially on Quest back in October, “Into Black” invites both solo players and groups of up to four to dive into a cooperative world where scavenging for resources and enhancing your gear takes center stage. Your main mission across the 20+ levels, each set in distinct biomes, is to salvage enough equipment to repair your ship and escape a perilous alien territory, all while battling various foes.
Alongside its main campaign, the PSVR 2 version introduces the ‘Singularity’ mode, a captivating PvPvE challenge. Imagine facing off against up to 11 other players in a high-stakes online competition where alliances are short-lived. The Binary Mill intriguingly poses the challenge: “Form fragile partnerships while navigating a labyrinth that’s always closing in. Collect treasures quickly, but beware—greed could be your downfall.”
“Into Black” isn’t just jumping to a new platform; it’s being revitalized. The PSVR 2 upgrade boasts revamped environments with enhanced lighting effects, dynamic shadows, HDR, and eye-tracked foveated rendering. These are complemented by advanced haptic feedback thanks to PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the unique rumble feature in the PSVR 2 headset.
Regarding cross-play with Quest, there’s a definitive update: the PSVR 2 version won’t support this feature at launch. This was confirmed in a brief communication with the studio.
As we eagerly await a full trailer showcasing these PSVR 2 enhancements, the studio has shared a couple of intriguing images and short clips to whet our appetites. Although a precise release date remains under wraps, The Binary Mill assures fans it’ll be soon. In the meantime, players can add “Into Black” to their wishlist on the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2 to stay in the loop.
