Fantastic news for PlayStation enthusiasts and lovers of vibrant, engaging gameplay! Last night, Astro Bot managed to snag the prestigious Game of the Year award at the BAFTA Awards, outshining some incredible contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
But that wasn’t the only victory for Astro Bot. Alongside the top honor, the game also took home awards in several other categories, including Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This triumph comes on the heels of its Game of the Year win at The Game Awards last year, where it once again outpaced numerous major releases in what was an incredibly competitive 2024.
When the moment came to accept the award, the team of creators stood united, but it was Nicolas Doucet who stepped forward to deliver a heartfelt speech. He turned the spotlight onto the talented team back in Japan, saying, “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”
In his speech, Doucet went on to express gratitude to key team members and collaborators, including the game’s composer, everyone at PlayStation, and all the partners whose games were featured in Astro Bot. He also extended his thanks to the BAFTA academy, the families of the developers, and all the pioneering video game developers who paved the way.
