Nintendo just announced that starting April 24, you can pre-order the much-anticipated Switch 2 in the U.S. The prices? They’re sticking to their guns with the console priced at $449.99. If you’re a Mario Kart fan, there’s a bundle deal that includes Mario Kart World for $499.99.
Initially, U.S. pre-orders faced a hiccup right after the big reveal. The delay was due to Nintendo needing a moment to gauge how potential tariffs and shifting market dynamics could play a role.
On the accessory front, don’t be too surprised if you notice a slight uptick in prices. For instance, the Joy-Con 2 controllers are going from $89.99 to $94.99, and the Pro Controller is seeing a similar bump from $79.99 to $84.99. It’s not just these; everything from the Switch 2 camera to dock sets, wheel sets, and charging grips will cost a bit more.
Nintendo also hinted that more pricing adjustments might come down the line depending on how the market moves.
Circle June 5 on your calendars—that’s when you can finally get your hands on it.
While April 9 was the initial pre-order date, unforeseen circumstances pushed it back. It coincided with President Donald Trump’s announcement of a broad set of tariffs. On that same day, Trump also proposed a 90-day tariff pause, except for certain Chinese goods.
In happier news for gamers, the prices for Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza, releasing July 17, aren’t changing. They’ll stay put at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
The Switch 2 boasts several upgrades from its predecessor, like a bigger HDR screen, twice the USB Type-C ports, and Nvidia’s beefed-up graphics chip.
At $449.99, the price is noticeably up from the original Switch’s $299.99 launch price. Understandably, fans have been vocal, urging Nintendo to make it more wallet-friendly.
Acknowledging the delay, Nintendo issued an apology and expressed hope that their actions will ease some of the uncertainty for their customers.
