And just like that, my streak of not spending a dime on Nintendo Switch Online comes to an end.
One beloved feature of the Switch is wrapping up right after the rerelease of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and unfortunately, another won’t carry over to the upcoming Switch 2.
Nintendo has just revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program will be phased out starting March 25, at 12:59 a.m. ET. This initiative used to give players a 1% eShop credit for first-party physical releases within their first year and automatically awarded 5% back for all eShop purchases. There’s a catch though; physical games launched between March 25, 2024, and the program’s conclusion will still have their year to get these benefits. So titles like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be covered, but games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
Moreover, Nintendo has updated the support details for their Switch Online Vouchers, confirming that these won’t be compatible with Switch 2 games. For those not in the know, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could snag pairs of these vouchers for $99 US or equivalent and redeem them for first-party titles. However, these vouchers will still be available for anything new on the original Switch, including future releases like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
