Just after Nintendo revealed the release date for the Switch 2, they hit a bit of a hiccup with preorders in the U.S. and Canada, all thanks to some tariff issues tied to Donald Trump. Luckily, those tariffs were postponed until after the console’s launch, so now we know when gamers in North America can start their race against scalpers: April 24, 2025, is the big day when preorders open.
The price for the console stays put, which is great news. You can snag the Switch 2 alone for $449.99, or if you’re up for an extra bit of fun, the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will be $499.99. Both bundles keep the price points consistent, avoiding any unexpected hikes.
When it comes to games, they’ve also kept stable pricing. Mario Kart World will launch at $79.99, and Donkey Kong Bananza is set at $69.99. Both physical and digital versions will be available, in case you were wondering.
However, there’s a small catch. The price tag for Switch 2 accessories has been tweaked from the original announcement on April 2nd, which they’re attributing to “changes in market conditions.” Plus, they’re not ruling out future price adjustments for any Nintendo product if market conditions shift again. You can keep tabs on everything at www.nintendo.com for the latest product and pricing details.
While price adjustments are always a possibility, current circumstances in the U.S. make them much more likely.
Even with these caveats, it’s a relief to finally have a date to mark for when we can attempt to secure the Nintendo Switch 2. If you’re eligible, consider registering for the preorder on Nintendo.com to boost your chances against scalpers when things kick off next Thursday.
