Team Cherry, the Australian game development studio, has reassured fans that the much-anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight, titled Silksong, is indeed coming.
Matthew Griffin, who handles marketing and publishing for the team, recently responded to a tweet where a fan asked if the project was still underway. Griffin confirmed that Silksong is “real, progressing, and will release.”
The game was initially announced in 2019, originally conceived as a DLC for Hollow Knight. However, it expanded into a standalone title. Since its announcement, the developers have been rather tight-lipped, providing few updates. The last substantial bit of news came during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022, hinting at a possible Game Pass release by June 2023.
Obviously, that deadline has come and gone, creating quite a stir among the Silksong fanbase. Things took an odd turn when fans noticed that William Pellen of Team Cherry changed his Twitter profile picture to an image of a cake. So far, nothing extraordinary, right? But upon digging deeper, fans discovered that this cake image was uploaded on April 2nd, 2024, provoking all sorts of wild theories.
These speculations spiraled into the belief that Silksong would make an appearance at Nintendo’s rumored Switch 2 event, supposedly set for April 2nd, 2025.
However, a YouTuber known for covering Silksong has stepped in to clarify that these are purely baseless rumors and a product of overactive imaginations.
It does sound a bit out there, but as an eager player myself, I can’t pretend that I haven’t indulged in a bit of speculation while waiting for Silksong. I’d probably entertain any crazy theory just to keep hope alive.
But hey, at least we’re not as invested as the Star Citizen community, which has poured a staggering $778 million into their game. Now that’s something else!
